Student Government

“Parents who persistently fall on the side of intervening for their child, as opposed to supporting their child’s attempts to problem-solve, interfere with the most important task of childhood and adolescence: the development of a sense of self.” -Madeline Levine, The Prince of Privilege

Here at Phoenix Academy, your child will have the opportunity to be a part of a student led government.  Your child will collaborate with their peers to create a constitution by which the school, themselves, and their peers will operate. This contractual agreement will lead to peer-to-peer accountability.  It is inevitable that problems will arise as small disturbances evolve into chaos. Undoubtedly, leaders will rise to the occasion and work towards regaining order. How much more powerful that correction will be coming from a peer alliance than it would be coming from an adult. We believe our learners gain confidence in their ability to problem solve, lead, and support their peers through this method of student government.

Handing this kind of power over to our children is our way of saying- we trust you, you have the power, and we trust that you want your life to turn out great. We believe each child has many talents, skills, and strengths that they can discover and develop as they engage in our student government.
